Guided Climbing Tours on the Sarner Scharte (2468 m)
Varied routes on solid porphyry rock with stunning Alpine views
Rising directly above the main village of the Sarntal, the Sarner Scharte (2468 m) is a striking porphyry massif of ridges, slabs, and towers. While its steep cliffs seem almost inaccessible from the valley, the backside reveals a wide grassy plateau. This impressive climbing area was first made famous in the late 1960s by legendary alpinists such as Heini Holzer, Heinz Steinkötter, and Hans Pescoller – and today it remains one of South Tyrol’s most diverse climbing spots.
From the classic Holzer Ridge (IV-) to the Engel Ridge (VI) or modern routes like the Locomotive (VIII-), the Sarner Scharte offers challenges for both pleasure climbers and ambitious slab specialists. The climbing is rewarding and varied, with excellent rock quality throughout.
At the summit cross, climbers are rewarded with a breathtaking 360° panorama of the Eastern Alps. On the way down to Villanders or into the Sarntal, traditional alpine huts invite you to relax and enjoy authentic South Tyrolean specialties.
With a certified mountain guide, your climbing tour on the Sarner Scharte will be safe, unforgettable, and tailored to your personal goals.
